Massage & Acupuncture Q & A

What is massage?

Massage is a group of therapeutic healing techniques that involve placing manual pressure on your skin and tissues. Your massage therapist uses their hands to knead your tissues, which stimulates the muscles, tendons, and fascia.

One interesting advantage of massage therapy over other therapeutic practices is that it improves both physical and psychological well-being. The team at Florida Lakes Spa might recommend massage as part of your treatment for:

  • High blood pressure
  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Stress
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Insomnia
  • Nerve pain

There are many common massage therapy techniques, including some specifically for lymphatic flow, stress relief, and injury rehabilitation. The team at Florida Lakes Spa informs you of the technique they’ll use in your treatment.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapy from traditional Chinese medicine with just as many benefits as massage therapy. However, it reaches deeper tissues using very fine needles placed at pressure points or energy pathways (also called meridians). When your acupuncturist inserts the needles at these meridians, they restore balance to your energy flow.

Acupuncture improves a number of conditions and wellness concerns, including musculoskeletal pain, headaches, and even menstrual cramps.

After your acupuncturist strategically places the needles during your treatment, they stay in place for 10-20 minutes as you relax. After the treatment, many people report feeling energized, and experience improved symptoms within weeks.

What are the benefits of massage and acupuncture?

Massage and acupuncture each have benefits of their own, but many people find that they experience enhanced benefits by taking part in both therapies. Each of them elevates the benefits of the other because they work on two different levels to increase circulation and relieve tension.

A few of the benefits that massage and acupuncture can offer are:

  • Relieving muscle tightness
  • Decreasing muscle spasms
  • Relieving inflammation
  • Increasing circulation
  • Promoting relaxation
  • Reducing chronic pain and discomfort
  • Improving mobility and flexibility
  • Improving healing
  • Improving lymphatic flow

The Florida Lakes Spa team invites you in for a consultation, where they discuss your treatment goals and individual needs. They inform you of the benefits that massage and acupuncture can offer you and let you know how either or both treatments can help you.

Massage and acupuncture are two highly therapeutic options that work well together or on their own. If you’re interested in trying one or both of them, call Florida Lakes Spa or schedule your consultation online today.
